Photo of the day 16- Devastation

We headed up to our cabin and because of a road closure had to drive through the Brenckenridge area. I was shocked at how bad the pine bark beetle infestation is and how fast it is devastating the forests here in Colorado. state and federal officials forest service experts estimate that all of Colorado's mature lodgepole pine forests will be killed within three to five years.
The bark beetle infestation has already destroyed nearly 2 million acres.

Make way for the aspens - at least at the lower elevations.

It saddens L and I every day to see all the trees dying (and worries us about the fire danger too).
